Abominations and new races were forged from the fires of magic and winds of the Veilstorms, creating something new out of humanity. These storms tore across the earth and changed everything. Its violent reactions caused the Veilstorms. Some hold that the Veil itself is alive a mysterious entity that did not like being pierced. Through that tear in reality came the Dragons. The Veil was the only border between our world and a stranger, more magical world Beyond. Taking place after an apocalyptic event known as First Breaking of the World. Jacobs denies considering the game a spiritual successor to DAoC although stating he could have legally done so had he chosen to. The game is planned to have large scale PvP battles as a primary focus to its gameplay. Also like DAoC, the game will borrow from Arthurian legend, Norse mythology, and Irish mythology while adding new and original elements to it. Currently there is no release date available for it.Ĭamelot Unchained is considered to be a spiritual successor to Mark Jacobs' prior game Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC) and will prominently feature a Player versus Player (PvP)-centric design which Jacobs now calls "Tri-Realm". The game is based on its own proprietary game engine engineered for server-side physics and large-scale battles, and as such will focus primarily on open World PVP rather than "theme park" instanced encounters or battlegrounds.Ĭamelot Unchained entered Beta 1 phase on July 31, 2018. Its crowd funding campaign has raised US$4.5 million with Jacobs contributing an additional $5 million from his own assets, and raising an additional $7.5 million from investors, for a total of $17 million. Leading its production is Mark Jacobs, the former designer of Dark Age of Camelot. Requiring a healer to try and manage something like this in 500v500 battles makes me think the devs were doing copious amounts of LSD.Massively multiplayer online role-playingĬamelot Unchained is an in-development fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game from City State Entertainment which was partially funded through Kickstarter. Not sure why there is healer hate lately in MMORPGS but again this system was so stupid. Good god can you imagine trying to balance a system like that. No one asked for complicated skills where you can add modifiers and aim at body parts. So many people on the Alpha forums basically feel the same way. The health and skill systems are fucking dumb. But on the other hand it would be cool to get player crafted castles and mega cities. If i have to do that in game to participate in the game im going to die inside. The builder system gives me mixed feelings. I understand gamers arent kids anymore with a ton of time to dump into a game, and the feeling of being outclassed by someone else that had time to grind levels, weapons and armor probably does not feel so good in a PvP environment but vertical progression and meaningful character building is a HUGE reason why i like to play these types of games. Idk what the hell MMORPGs are doing lately but CU wanting to limit or outright remove vertical progression kills my soul. This looks like a slight improvement on EQ1 graphics right now. Can bases/towns even survive for more than a few seconds when that many siege engines and players are trying to lay waste? To date, the graphics and animations are absolutely trash. What an absolute cluster fuck those fights are going to be. But then I think about it from the practical standpoint. Is 500v500 even going to be fun? The more i think about it the less i am inclined to think it will be. Thats the point! Strive for an experience that no one has even imagined. I get that CU is striving for something different. I cant think of one instance in gaming where something even close to that has occurred. But the more I think about it, the less I think they needed to create an engine. Creating an engine from the ground up is very difficult. I dont really care if the project takes 15+ years to be realized.if its a good game I am happy to wait, but I am not seeing improvement between iterations. There is a lot of stuff I am seeing that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But with that said I am thinking hard about it. I dont think I will request a refund as I dont really need the money and want this project to succeed. I supported because my favorite MMOs were DAOC and Warhammer (i fucking loved Warhammer actually). I am a Warrior 2.0 Forever backer as well.
